Flood and Drain systems provide nutrition and oxygen to plants, by periodically surrounding them with nutrients, which is then periodically drained away.

The nutrients are pumped up from a reservoir and then left to surround the plants roots for a period of time, so that the plants can feed. The nutrient is then drained away leaving fresh oxygen surrounding them.

As a result of the oxygen surrounding the roots the plants have all the elements they need to grow quickly and strong.
